New strategic plan for the South Downs Society

The South Downs Society has published (June 2007) its strategic plan for 2007 to 2009.  The core aims of the Society for the next two years are:

Influencing the policies and actions of regional and local authorities and land managers to protect and enhance the area's landscape character

Protecting and improving rights of way and responsible access to the Downs

Encouraging understanding of the South Downs through a programme of walks and strolls and by initiating projects, events and debates

Maintaining and increasing a broad membership to strengthen our influence and team of volunteers

Championing the foundation of the South Downs National Park to become the leading critical friend of the National Park Authority.
