Society supports school visit to the South Downs
Vanessa Baber, Headteacher of Twineham CE Primary School, today (19 July 2007) publicly thanked the South Downs Society for making it possible for children from the school to enjoy an educational visit to the stunning South Downs.
The Society, which exists to protect the beauty of the Downs, makes grants available for education and conservation projects on the South Downs.
Seventy-five children went on the visit to the Seven Sisters Country Park as part of their geography studies and to promote the South Downs to the school community.
Miss Baber, Headteacher, said “We are tremendously grateful to the South Downs Society for their support. The rolling hills of the South Downs is a wonderful place for children, with so much to see and do and learn.”
Jacquetta Fewster, Director of the South Downs Society, said “Enabling youngsters to enjoy and explore our beautiful countryside is vitally important and we were delighted to help make the school visit a reality. Many children from the school had not visited the South Downs before, and they loved it. It’s stunning countryside, and within easy reach, and we hope they’ll return again and again.”
Ben, one of the students at Twineham Primary School, said “It was a very great day. I loved finding mini-beasts.” Class-mate Annie added: “Finding bugs was the really interesting thing”, and Connor said “I loved the Cuckmere because it was like a snake.”
