Free train travel for youth groups walking on the South Downs

The South Downs Society has launched a great new project which will enable hundreds of youngsters to enjoy the beautiful South Downs. The Society has published walks especially designed for children and young people, and to make it as easy as possible, the train company, Southern, has generously agreed to give free off-peak train travel to all those attending the walk, including adults accompanying the youth group.

There are four great routes to choose from. There is the Hassocks circular walk (4.5 miles), the Berwick circular walk (4 miles), the Southease circular walk (4 miles), and Glynde to Lewes walk (2 miles). Soon there will be a fifth: the Amberley to Arundel walk (4.5 miles).

All the walks are full of interesting things to see and do on the way, and are described, with maps, on hard-wearing laminated sheets, ideal for use by adults and youngsters.

To qualify, all schools and youth groups need to do is to affiliate to the South Downs Society (£50 or less per year, depending on the size of the organization), and then take advantage of the special offer.  Up to two free train trips are available each year.
