Remember the South Downs in your will
If you have had a lifetime's pleasure from the beauty of the South Downs, why not help to secure their future by leaving a legacy to the South Downs Society in your will?
The South Downs Society is committed to protecting the beauty of the Downs for the enjoyment of future generations of young people and their families. The Society is independent of government and relies on the generosity and commitment of its members and supporters to do its work.
Without this vital support, the Society could not protect the Downs from inappropriate and damaging development at a time when they are under increasing pressure from new roads, further industrialisation and insensitive housing development.
Leaving a bequest to the South Downs Society could also help you avoid paying inheritance tax because legacy gifts to registered charities are exempt from the tax.
How can I create a legacy for the South Downs?
We recommend that you seek the help of a solicitor on how to leave a legacy to the South Downs Society.
You will need to give your solicitor the name, Registered Charity Number and address of the Society as follows:
The South Downs Society, Registered Charity Number 230239 of
2, Swan Court, Station Road, Pulborough, West Sussex, RH201RL.
There are basically thee main ways to give to the South Downs Society in your Will:
- The Pecuniary Bequest: which provides a fixed sum of money.
- The Residuary Bequest: which provides the remainder of the estate after provision for loved ones etc.
- The Percentage Bequest: which provides a fixed percentage of the estate.
Such legacy donations are particularly satisfying and effective as they are entitled to avoid 40% Inheritance tax.
